Hello -

I’m looking to add an ssd to my system to help with the overall snappiness of the pc.

I’ve narrowed it down to two options basically, but here is my question.

Should I go with a smaller pcie drive and get quadruple the read and double the write speeds of a SATA drive? Or should I go with a Sata drive with higher capacity but lesser speeds. I know both are much faster than my current hdd, which was reused from an older system.

If there are better options that I’m for 150 USD or below, suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
LC

I have an 850evo in an older i7 system, a 850pro in a newer i7 system, and a 960evo in my ryzen build, and there's not really a noticeable difference in boot times. If the size of the drive doesnt matter to you, then get the 960evo, but you're not going to notice much.
Depends on what you are using the computer for. If you are just looking for "snappiness", then you'll probably never notice a difference in the two, just that the 960 will be smaller. Gaming won't change at all either. What are you using the computer for?

For the most part I’m looking for faster boots and loading. Right now it’s mostly running lighter games.

However I’m also looking to do some basic video editing and 3D CAD.

I’m thinking of going with the pcie drive for faster boots. I can always add a sata drive later on if I want to (I have three available slots in my s340 elite)
