I have an older biostar 880GU3+ motherboard that I would like to upgrade to 16gb which is the maximum that motherboard is slated to handle. Can I put in 2 8gig sticks or do I need to go with 4 4s will be 1600 speed which is also the fastest the old girl slated to handle.

All are fine:

Thanks a lot for your answer when I saw it had a maximum of 16 I thought might be forced to go with 4x4 gigs which a you have pointed out in your posts costs 20 dollars more, not a huge amount but I have the board and have had it for years. I am simply looking to upgrade the ram and graphics card maybe add an ssd for booting zip so that my son can game on it for a while longer. It is running a Phenom II 960T 4 core which sadly did not unlock to six but does overclock quite nicely. Thinking about adding a rx 560 2gb for the video card. I figure thats about as high as I can go without losing an insane amount of performance from the graphics card to CPU bottle necking which I imagine it will still get some of.

TA880GU3+ Motherboard
Phenom II 960T running at stock 3ghz though I've had overclocked to I believe 3.6 in times past and pretty sure it can go higher
xigmatek loki cooler
currently running 6 gigs of 1333 ram why 6? I am not sure anymore... but 2x2gb and 2x1gb...
Evga 500watt 80+ psu
radeon HD 5770 graphics card (which has lasted for many years and keeps on ticking)
Hard drive western digital 250gb don't see rpms listed guessing probably 5400...
I think thats everything.

Okay thanks, I thought the ram was probably too little for current games. But I will do as you say and go with GTX 1060 and forgo the ram. I've been looking at Ryzen very keenly, really want to build myself a new rig with it but wife says...NO, so I will bide my time and wait as you say for 2.0 to come out. Thanks again for your help.
