hey guys !
i have currently a b250 mobo with a i3 7100 and i was wondering what would be the best upgrade path. i mainly game and do a bit of editing.
i approximately have 350 bucks, in switzerland, its the price of a i7 7700k or a b350 mobo with a r5 1600x. do you guys have any idea ? thanks ;)

Solution
As said get new or used sky or kaby i5 or i7 non k. It will be cheaper performance/price vise. Ryzen is not so good for gaming.
Also u could try to sell your current mobo and cpu. Coffeelake will be expensive at start so it may not worth waiting for price to stabilise.

Wait for i5 8600k to come out, 6 cores will be great for gaming and editing. Or u could try to find used i5 or i7 sky/kabylake this would be the cheapest path to go.

i see, thanks guys.
the fact is everything is really expensive here, si i was wondering if the 8600k was worth the wait considering the need of a new mobo.
i guess i'll wait a bit for the 8600k to become available where i live. the problem with that option is the price. (1 usd = 1 chf) the price of a decent z370 mATX (i have a mATX case) mobo is around 180 chf and the cpu itself is 300 chf. sure it will be overclockable compared to the 7700k on my b250 but its 130 bucks more

Cheapest way would get a ryzen with board, but there you will have to be sure your RAM will be compatible with it. Ryzen is a very DRAM frequency dependent CPU. So more than 2666MHz should be installed to get it working with a great performance.

Like said, coffeelake-s 8th gen Intel CPUs are not compatible to "older" chipsets with socket 1151 (100 and 200 series). Only 300series chipsets with socket 1151 will be compatible.
