Hi Guys,

Rig specs

Corsair 540 cube
asus ranger viii
16gb DDR4 - 3000mhz
6700K - clocked to 4.5ghz
GTX 1080 asus
Cpu cooler - Raijin paladin low profile (Originally was going for a ATX case which didn't turn out)

Right here is my question and need help understanding,

my Cpu has always idled at 35-40c but when I play games it can go up to 70-80c or even higher at times, so when I played games for a long period i have always wondered why i get stuttering or drop in fps and thought could it be throttling? what indications are there that is throttling which i don't understand to much about ...

So in the end i went out and bought the coolermaster masterair and installed it last night with ease, and now getting idle temps of 25-30c with games max at 65-70 with no fps drops or stuttering.

could it have been the heat sink not being able to cope with the temps of the cpu?

sorry if i haven't explained it to well so much info in my head right now in trying to think how to explain ha :)

Kind regards

Jadc

Solution
Throttling by heat:

1st CPU frequency drops because of overheating
2nd motherboard´s voltage regulators are overheating and not getting enough voltage to the CPU

overclocking can lead to overheating more often

you can log frequencies and voltages by msi afterburner during gaming
