Hey there,

I'm using this AM3 Motherboard but i'm running an awful Opteron 1356 Server Grade CPU on it. It's running very slow, it's not supporting DDR3 memory and its not even stable.
I was opting to upgrade my CPU to something that delivers enough performance to game on, but i'm not an expert in those older AMD CPU's, so i'd rather ask you people whether you can help me. And yes, i know, the AM3 platform is old and i won't get great experience from it, but my Budget is short and i'm not opting to upgrade my Mb yet, just let me know what the best one for this system would be ^^ price Tag should be somewhere around 50€, but i would consider going higher on that

Specs:
Mb: ASRock N68c-s UCC
RAM: 8 gig DDR3, Crucial Ballistix Sport (2x4 gig kit)
Random 500 W Psu
Msi GTX 750 Ti (power delivery shouldnt be a problem, no matter how bulky the cpu is)

The motherboard you have only supports AM2+ socket up to 95W this means while you will be able to use AM3 cpu's you will not be able to use AM3+ such as the FX series. If you're able to find any thing that would fit for your motherboard it will most likely come from eBay such as the Phenom II X6. That is pretty much the best you can ever hope to get to work with your current setup.

Best CPUs supported by that motherboard are the Phenom II X4 945 and X6 1055T processors. Both don't really overwhelm in terms of performance, but they should be an improvement over the Opteron (which isn't even officially supported on that board btw).

A complete new platform based on a AMD Ryzen 3 or even an Intel i3-8100 would be a better and much more modern alternative, but it obviously means higher cost due to more parts being replaced.

Yea, as i've said, mboard and other components upgrading, that'll come in the future. I'm a student i don't have a lot of money for PC components. I WILL go Ryzen in some time, was planning on that anyway, but the phenom will do for now. And yes, i know the opteron is not supported, but that's what im living with.
