Hello! We recently moved from the US to the Netherlands and shipped our gaming PCs along with us. It looked like they survived the journey just fine, and after doing some research beforehand it seemed like our power supplies would work here as well- we both have the Corsair HX1000i, one of them is 850W and the other is 1000W (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139082). They can support up to 250V, and seem to be autovolt (no switch to flip to change it from one voltage to another, and we checked them over a bunch just to be extra sure).

We tried plugging in my partner's PC first since his isn't as new as mine; we got some power cables with the correct plug, and he got his PC hooked up to the monitor etc. He said everything seemed fine at first, but after a moment he noticed his boot drive was smoking. So of course he promptly turned off and unplugged it.

He thinks maybe the hard drive just went bad since he's had it for a long time (over 10 years evidently?), but we wanted to triple check that we didn't forget a step or something, since we really don't want to fry my PC. Any ideas? I can get you more specs for his PC if needed- mine has the parts listed here: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/traumlos/saved/PP2G3C

I've already tried contacting Corsair support, but all they said was 'you need to buy a European power cable'... which, you know, we obviously did since how would the hard drive have burned otherwise? >_>

Solution
Hi, Power supplies should work with the correct plugs. But shocks during shipping do often affect components/contacts. Try reconnecting/reseating all components/cables inside the pc, but the CPU and CPU cooler, if heatsink not heavy/bulky.
