Hi Guys,

Im using a h170a pc mate, the 7700k upgraded from a i5 6500 with a Coolermaster Hyper Evo 212.

Just tried to power on the pc and im getting all case lights on, fans etc but no display and no keyboard lights either. Reading around people are suggesting to reset cmos but I dont have the jumper cap so I used a screwdriver in order to short the pins instead but still nothing. Just put my 6500 back in and everything works fine so im a little stuck here. One probable cause is that im not resetting cmos properly. Should I be shorting the cmos jumpers with the power cord in and power off, power cord in power on or everything off? When the power cord is in and power off if I connect the pins with the screwdriver I see a little blue light appear next to the two reset pins. Is this done?

If not any other ideas?

Thanks

Yes, you probably didn't update your MOBO BIOS to support the new Kaby Lake CPU.

Download and install that update from your MOBO's manufacturer website, switch up to the new CPU again and you'll probably be good to go.
you bought a motherboard designed for a 6th gen CPU and your trying to run it with a 7th gen CPU. you will have to upgrade the BIOS in order to get that CPU with that motherboard. unfortunately the only way to upgrade the BIOS is with a working computer so you will have to get a 6th gen CPU to boot the board to do the BIOS upgrade

MERGED QUESTION
Question from Jwoodall : "No display again on 7700k installation"

Disconnect power and short the bios jumper for 10 - 15 seconds to reset the bios and see if you can get a display with the 6500. Also, check the mobo cpu slot to see if you may have a bent pin in there from all the changing.

Not 100 percent sure but I think theres a bent pin on the mobo now. Cant quite believe it, I finally manage to sort it all out then upon the last fit of the cpu after i reset and update the bios i manage to bend a pin or two beyond repair. I suppose ill have to order another mobo. Great...

I have managed to straighten a few pins with a strong light, a good magnifier, and a straight pin.

It's unfortunate when it happens. I've worked with hardware for 30 years, and ruined two boards in a row earlier this year and can't even explain how I managed it. Fortunately, a $60 board handles everything I want to do.
