What CPU to pair with gtx1080ti?

I was wondering what CPU I should pair with my new 1080ti. I would prefer to stick with intel. Should I get a 6 core with lower mhz or a 4 core with higher cores? does it really matter at all? I just want to make sure my cpu won’t bottleneck my gpu.

I7-8700K is currently the absolutely best gaming processor available.
It is in short supply.
Actually, the $100 cheaper I5-8600K is equally good for gaming.
6 threads is enough for any game. Few can actually use more than 2-3 threads.

With a high end build including a GTX1080ti, you want the best.

If you just want the best CPU possible to pair with the 1080ti, the i7 7700k is the best choice. There are other higher end CPUs, but after the 7700k you start getting into serious money, and the benefits don't really outweigh the costs. Do you already have other components? Or are you starting from scratch here?

Definitely go with the i7 7700k then. It'll be a great fit for the 1080 ti, and should last you a good many years. I have a friend running the 7700k and he absolutely loves it. He runs a mild overclock on it just for kicks, and it has never even come close to struggling in anything he's done with it.
