MSI Afterburner stops many of my games from launching.

I use MSI Afterburner to monitor temps, and CPU - GPU levels of usage. Not for overclocking at all.

However about two weeks ago I noticed that The Witcher 3 would not launch.

I figured close MSI Afterburner because it was the only new thing I was using. Even though it had worked fine and let games launch for a few days since starting to use it. The Witcher 3 launched with MSI closed. I could then start up MSI Afterburner once I already had The Witcher 3 running.

Anyway long story - short. Most of my games will not launch with MSI Afterburner running.

There were no updates to MSI-A. Yet for some reason a few days after I started using it, my games stopped launching with it running. I re-installed MSI-A just to be sure, but nothing changed.

I have googled a lot but most threads say it stops only one or two games from launching. Meaning there is no definitive answer.

Please has anyone had this experience and fixed it?

it happens due to the riva tuner statistic server. same will happen if you try to launch superposition benchmark with DX12 mode.
so with those games you can't have (or at least I don't know how to) overlay.
I just close the afterburner if i want to play doom or quake champions. closing afterburner does not affect selected profile (overclocking or/and fan curves) they already loaded to GPU when you afterburner launched.

I just uncheck the rivatuner option during the install. I guess this will only work for those with 2 monitors since you can just bring up Afterburner on the other monitor to watch temps.

I tried it. However I think I should try again because uninstalling MSI-A doesn't uninstall RivaTuner. Maybe I should fresh install that again. Basically no fix yet.

I checked Control Panel - Programs and Features. My graphics driver install was 10/10/2017. ... Yet I noted in a Steam forum, that this was happening by the 9th October 2017.

I will try again, but I wonder if it's Steam overlay too, as the other messages suggest. I will re-read their ideas after I post this message.

OK, so you and Eternal Champion suggest no RiverTuner. However I thought RivaTuner was the app that runs the on-screen stats like GPU usage. I will look into this and see what happens.
