so i have recently built a new gaming computer from scratch from buying a new gpu cpu motherboard psu ram and i have took out my hard drive and cd/dvd driver using them in my new build and i must say it works amazing which there fore leaving the other components that are not needed with the old computer and i have decided i wanted to bring my old computer back to life for my brother to use for gaming so i then bought a new cd/dvd driver and a brand new 1tb hard drive which was needed and build the old computer back together but a problem has struck for some reason the computer will not boot with the new hard drive it only allows it to boot using my personal 1tb hard drive that i once used in the computer which i then took out as part of my new build. why will the old computer successfully boot with the hard drive i use and not the new one it will display a message saying CAN NOT BOOT DRIVE TAKING YOU TO THE BIOS or what ever it says. can anyone please help me i would appreciate it thanks

You need to boot the system off the Windows Install DVD/USB. Then you can install Windows onto the new hard drive.

Insert the DVD or USB flash drive. Select a temporary boot device. On an HP this is usually the Esc key, sometimes it is F9. Tap the key when you turn on the computer to get to the Boot Menu. Try Esc first if that doesn't work reboot and try F9. Then select your DVD drive or USB flash drive for the Windows installer.

From there you will want to install Windows.

Note: That HP is already licensed for Windows 10. Choose the "I don't have a product key" option on the "Activate Windows" screen. Once the computer is setup. It should activate on the MS...
How old is the older computer? Depending on how old it is some of them had issues with drives bigger drives. What you could do is clone the older drive to the bigger 1TB using a free program like macrium reflect and then just boot the older computer with the older drive.

If for some reason it does not. Then use the product key. However, I would save that product key for the new PC if you can.

Check Activation Status and Change Product Key:

As per the instructions choose the offline account option. There is no need to screw around with an MS account. Turn off all privacy settings and don't use Cortana. Let the new owner decide if they want all that stuff monitoring them.
