Hi,

I just bought an i5 8600k to replace my 2600k (mobo died). I mostly do gaming so will I see a huge improvement? My 2600k was running at 4.4 GHz.

Apart from that I have GTX 1070 and 1080p 60Hz screen.

Solution
a recent comparison of 2600K vs. 8700K on Youtube using 1070 was quite informative; I would have anticipated a larger difference, but, see just how capable the 2600K still is....

Not at that resolution, on games, that is. You'll notice it on other stuff that you do, and if you got at least 16gb of ram, you'll see lots of improvement in your multitasking scenarios.
The 2600k is still a fine cpu. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cpu-hierarchy,4312.html
All this being said, now is the time to upgrade for folks with Ivy or Sandy bridge chips. These new coffee lakes are the first really impressive thing from Intel in a while. Amazing what competition and more cores does for the consumer.

I never wanted to upgrade, but I am unable to find a cheap Z77 motherboard, the ones which are available are the ones from China and I think it's better to stay away from them. Anyways, I think I should still go ahead with 8600k as I might see some improvement in CPU intensive titles like Prepar3D V4 (flightsim). Another reason for the upgrade is DDR 4 RAM which might help in squeezing out few more FPS. And is it worth buying 8700k instead of 8600k for gaming purpose or should I just stick with 8600k?

Where do you live? I live in India so I can't ship it to any other country.

France or Quebec would be my guess.
No reason to feel bad, other than it costs money to replace stuff. Both the 8700k and 8600k appear to be awesome chips. The 8600k it seems is about the performance equal of any previous 4c/8t chip with 8700k being something better yet. It all comes down to your budget and, obviously, availability of components(not too good atm).

Oh, US, rip. :)

I watched one recently, and from what I remember it depends on the game. Some games there was a large difference while other games there was a very small difference.
