I have an old Intel server board s5000vsa pulled the specs off cnet and read this.

Compatible Processors
Dual-Core Xeon 5000 series, Dual-Core Xeon 5100 series, Quad-Core Xeon 5300 series
Processor Socket LGA771 Socket
Max Bus Speed 1333 MHz
Max Processors Qty 2

My questions are: Those 3 series of CPU's are those my only options?
Am I better off with 1 powerful cpu or 2 smaller ones?
Would any Graphics card work that would fit into my slots or will it need to be more specific ?

I would like to do some gaming nothing extreme but this will be more of a work computer .

Any info is much appreciated.
Thanks!

you can get a quad core xeon x5460 (3.16ghz) for $40 on ebay so might as well get 2 of em.
ive got a server with dual quad core xeon e5420's (2.5ghz) and they are worth about $5 each.

I don't recommend you use this thing as a work computer. even having dual x5460's you will have the performance of a modern day i3 with 4 times the power draw and noise. people who use and build these computers are more or less doing it for fun. its not practical at all

Thank you very much for the response I would like to get something else other then this server but it was free so I'm just trying to make the best of it atm . And you're right about the noise it's already bad lol. I'll do some searching around see if I can't find some kind of budget builds on pc's. Those prices on the quad cores sound perfect for my price range and 2 will definently be nice :) Thanks again I appreciate the help always!

I have the same server motherboard and was wondering if you have tried using those x5460s yet?
