SSD being misread and unusable

I've got a 500GB Samsung EVO 840 SSD that a friend was about to throw out and I hoped I could save it.

Windows disk management is misreading it as being a 928GB drive. It also says 'Read Only' and won't allow any options (all are greyed out).

I tried easeUS and AOMEI to access the drive. Both are reading it as a 928GB and 500GB drive and neither will let me do much with it.

I've tried booting it solo in a computer with a Windows 10 USB drive to see if Windows Setup could format it and install Windows. No luck.

I've tried using my motherboards disk wipe tool, no success.

Samsung Magician won't recognize it and Intel Toolkit won't allow any changes to be made.

Is there anything else that can be done or is this drive toast? He claims it was working until only a few weeks ago when he removed it from one computer to install in another.

Thanks in advance!
