Hi everyone, I was building a gaming PC, and while picking out a GPU, I initially went with a GTX 1050 Ti, but after looking through other options, I found a GTX 970 for only $20 more. I looked over some benchmarks, and found that the GTX 970 is a very good card, and at this price, I was just wondering whether there's something that I'm missing about the card, or if this is just an amazing deal. Is the GTX 970 a viable card today?

If overclocked it's pretty much on par with a stock GTX 1060 or RX 580. At stock speed it's a little bit behind those cards I mentioned. It's an excellent card for 1080p 60hz gaming and even good enough for 1440p gaming if you lower some settings. Yeah there is the issue that only 3.5GB of the vRAM is really usable while 512MB of the 4GB vRAM is very slow but I used the card for a year and I never had a problem with that. It's a lot more viable than the GTX 1050 ti.
Well for full disclosure it has been known that all the GTX 970 only have 3.5GB of full speed memory, with the remaining 500MB being slower speed that when utilized can cause a noticeable reduction in performance. But for the most part it's a great performing card especially when overclocked.

An overclocked GTX 970 is on par with a stock GTX 980. There's plenty of bench-marked evidence around YouTube and such.

I'm not sure if that link is good or not, it says out of stock and $329.99. Maybe you missed out?
