Cannot boot into normal mode but safe mode works fine

Hi, I have recently encountered a problem that I am not able to fix myself. Tried many different "so called solutions" however none seem to work so far.

I installed a clean copy of windows, did everything but whenever I install the graphics drivers for my GPU I cannot get to my desktop, it gives me a black screen after couple screen flashes.

You're having some dxgkrnl.sys issue. For some reason the system file for DXGraphics Kernel is faulting.
When you boot under Safe Mode, that sys file isn't called up because Windows doesn't need it to load into Safe Mode.

What you can try to do is run sfc /scannow (if you're unsure how to, search Google) from a command prompt in Safe Mode to see if that corrects the problem.

Also, have you tried other video drivers?

I have tried couple different drivers. Installed different operating systems, none helped. I will do the sfc /scannow. Will report the results.

Didn't help.

I picked up a Phenom II x4 940 when it released, along with a new MB, RAM, HDD and a copy of Vista (this was about 6-8 months before Win 7 launched).

I get all hardware installed and install Vista. I install all MB drivers and install my GPU driver. I restarted the computer and it loaded into Windows and froze. Restarted the computer, no change. Windows freezes after reaching the desktop.

No biggie. I start over with a clean Windows install. Install the MB drivers. Install GPU driver - driver won't install. I try a different driver, but it won't install - it just hangs. I do another clean install of Windows, but this time I try a different GPU. I grab my older 7600 GT and get a few drivers for it, I try to install a driver - won't install. I try a different driver, it works! But Windows hangs once the desktop loads.

I format the HDD again. This time I install XP. Install MB drivers, I try multiple video drivers from both GPUs and always meet with the same results. I spent 12+ hours screwing around with this new build. I ended up sending the MB back, per the manufacturer's request, to newegg for a replacement. A week or so later once the replacement MB came in, it worked flawlessly.

I think it's my GPU. It's dead, most likely. Tried another MOBO with an onboard graphics card and now it works... Sad.
