I ran across a few old "working" dell poweredge servers.

ones a 1U 1650 with dual 1.13 ghz p3's and 2gb ram. no drives

got 3 2U 2650's with dual 2800DP xeons unknown ram but 6 slots of it so I'm gonna guess 6gb? no drives

and a 2U 2950 gen 3 with dual xeon e5420s and 16gb ddr2 667 ram. still no drives but has 2 out of 6 drive cages.

for actual value ive found the newest of them to have a value of roughly $80 and I assume the older ones are "unsellable" what would you recommend I do with them? is there a community need for old parts on these systems for collectors? should I simply throw them away and do something with the 2950 for fun? none of them have drives so its kinda pointless buy drives and install windows server 2000 or 03 on them for god knows what purpose.

In my opinion, the 1650 and the 2650s are no longer usable and should be recycled. As for the 2950, I know because I have one, that they will run server 2008r2, or 2012, or 2016 so although it doesn't have a lot of ram, it is still a usable server. I was also able to get mine to be able to use 2x2TB hard drives so with 6 cages, 12TB theoretical storage, so doable. I loaned mine to my work for a while to use as a file server and it ran ESXi 5.5 with server 2008r2 very nicely. So if you need a file server, domain controller, print server, or something else that won't require a lot of RAM, then you'll be fine actually using the 2950.

that was my thought as well as far as recycling the older ones should I just get the aluminum out of them and then sell parts to a junk yard? how do I get the most out of them?\

and I don't have a need for another server. I have a plex / file server with 8tb of SATA storage here but the 2950 has SAS drive connections. so that wont do me much good. should I just clean it up and sell it on ebay for $80?
