Hi Everyone,

I need some help choosing a new wireless router. I have two desktops that will be used for online gaming simultaneously, so I need a router that can handle this. Both desktops are using Asus USB-AC68 Dual-Band AC1900 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapters.

Which router would you guys recommend for use with the AC68 USB adapters? I have been looking at the below routers, but it does not have to be an Asus router. These are just the easiest to get hold of in my country. I've included the US$ equivalent prices for my country as well. Due to import duties and taxes, things are very expensive here.

Asus RT-AC88U AC3100 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Gigabit Router - $323

Asus RT-AC68U AC1900 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Gigabit Router - $223

Asus RT-AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wi-Fi Router - $262

Asus RT-AC87U Dual-Band AC2400 Wi-Fi Gigabit Router - $254

From what I have read, the RT-AC88U AC3100 router uses NitroQAM technology to achieve its max bandwith speed, which the AC68 adapters don't support, but I might be wrong.

Routers that are just to expensive in my country are:

Asus RT-AC5300 - $412

Netgear Nighthawk X4S D7800 - $447 and rarely available

D-Link AC3200 Ultra Wi-Fi Router - $500 and rarely available

Netgear Nighthawk X8 AC5300 - $539 and rarely available

Linksys routers are impossible to find.

Any recommendations and advise would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks a mil!!

I would go with "Asus RT-AC68U AC1900 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Gigabit Router - $223".

Why?

Hopefully the specs are consistent and that router will be the fullest match to your existing adapters.

Dual band provides more configuration options for you.

The price is not the highest nor the lowest.

If you have problems, ASUS cannot blame the other manufacturer.

Go online and find the User Guide/Manual for the ASUS 1900AC router. Read through it and ensure that you can set it up with the configuration necessary for your network requirements. Also check Asus's FAQs and Forums. You may discover other information that will either support or eliminate that particular router. Fine print matters.

Should you discover that the 1900 is not...

Should you discover that the 1900 is not viable, then go to your second choice ASUS router. That "second choice" may change based on what you learn checking out the 1900AC.

Again, whatever router that may be, take a look at the User Guide/Manual, configuration options, diagrams, etc.. to ensure that the router will meet your requirements.
