Hey. I'm interested in buying the Gigabyte GT 1030 which seems to have a Overclock built in but i'm not sure whether this is the one i need cause my SFF pc has a Power supply of 250 W. Well, the specification says Core Clock (MHz): 1506 in OC Mode and 1468 in Gaming Mode while on the Zotac equivalent the Standard clock is 1240 MHz. Which is confusing me. I just want to make sure whether it will be permanenetly OC'd or only when i enable the Game/OC Mode? What would be the standard Clock? Do i go for Gigabyte or Zotac instead? Zotac is a famous brand for producing Low Profile cards but most people prefer Gigabyte?
I'd be perfectly content with the Zotac.
It depends on your settings and the load on the card. That's an entry level card so you really want it to give you everything it has. Leaving it on OC mode doesn't mean it will continuously run at those clocks. Only when in a game will it ratchet up and stay there, depending on the GPU's load percentage.
You can also adjust the power target. The main screen of
MSI AB will have that and many other options open to you. Want to change its maximum core clock? Change the memory clock? The user is welcome to apply custom clocks(over or underclock). You can reduce the power target so it will only go as high as the user wants. That however doesn't seem a likely scenario considering this card's relatively low performance. Throttle a 1030OC? No, unless that's what you want.
That's an Nvidia card. That means when you install the card and then the driver from Nvidia you also receive Nvidia's control panel. Open that and click on help. Click on debug mode. That removes any factory OC'ing. It will run at stock clocks.
