I have a asus z170 pro gaming motherboard and had a very outdated bios. I had downloaded a new bios from the website and began my flash. The flash completed and the computer went to restart but got stuck on a black screen. Now when i turn on my computer i get a black screen. I did try to take out the mobo battery which when restarting, i get a asus mobo logo and the black screen again. I think a possible victim is a typical recent 4.4 overclock (followed basic overclocking methods nothing unusual) to my cpu is what triggered some sort of error.
Here are my full specs:

intel i5-6600k
16gb dd4 2400
asus z170 pro gaming mobo
corsair gtx 100i cooler
gtx 1080 gpu
PNY 240bg ssd
fire pro 750w gold+ psu

have you ever desoldered a bios chip, or any chip off PCB board that small? If you have never done it, I would highly recommend against it. I can solder all types of things, but sometimes I find some PCB with extremely high temp solder, and it solidifies almost instantly. Without a solder pump and a High powered solder, it will not be possible. Just my advice, I dont want you to damage the board.

There are places you can bring it, like phone shops and have the microsolder expert desolder and resolder the chip in no time, I used to be that guy who...

CMOS reset won't save you.
The best option you have is to redownload the inital BIOS version you had, and re Flashing your BIOS with it back to default.

The BIOS changes the onboard motherboard rom.

I made the assumption that you have the Z170 Pro motherboard and not the 7170...
Did you see their advice:

If your BIOS Version of ASUS 100 series MB is under 1800, and you want to upgrade BIOS to support the latest 7th Intel CPU, please do remember to update BIOS two times to 30xx version manually.

So what version were you on and what version were you trying to go to?

You may want to look at the manual and read the section on restoring the BIOS on page 3-66: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/Z170-PRO/E10417_Z170-PRO_UM_WEB.pdf?_ga=2.230308700.1139845495.1508520748-1618606361.1508520748

I would download an older BIOS on a USB stick and restore it and see what happens.

i definitely had a pre 1800 bios series and i tried to go to 3402, i do have 18025 already downloaded though. I think i read some sort of thing about "update BIOS two times to 30xx version manually" but foolishly didnt research. I cant currently enter my bios screen, only see the logo, what steps would i have to reset bios?

I tried to copy the content from the manual but it is protected. But it tells you to download the BIOS onto a USB drive and boot with it plugged in and it should automatically read it and install it. I would download whatever version you had before and try that one. Or you can use the original motherboard support DVD that came with the motherboard if you have it.
Then you can do the step updates once you have it working again.

Hi,

if your mobo is asus 7170 pro gaming
it has crashfree BIOS.

In user manual, section 2.1.3 ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3 utility

Recovering the BIOSTo recover the BIOS:
1. Turn on the system.
2. Insert the support DVD to the optical drive or the USB flash drive that contains the BIOS file to the USB port.
3. The utility automatically checks the devices for the BIOS file. When found, the utility reads the BIOS file and enters ASUS EZ Flash 3 utility automatically.
4. The system requires you to enter BIOS Setup to recover BIOS settings. To ensure system compatibility and stability, we recommend that you press <F5> to load default BIOS values

hope it helps

I unplugged my gpu and disk drives, plugged in an hdmi to the onboard graphics, plugged in a usb with only the 1206 bios (i think the original bios that came with it), turned on my computer and get nothing to my display.
edit: yes i also changed the file name to Z17PG.CAP

Update: I found out that you can simply buy bios chips for about 14$ with the latest bios update on them. I'm just gonna take the easy way out here and avoid any more time and issues.

A lot do, you just have to be nice and ask around. Phone repair shops, computer repair shops, ask if they have a microsolder expert
