Hello everyone

So i have some home network problems, and i hope someone here has any ideas, cause i am fresh out :)

My network is a router provided by my ISP which is connect to my computer through a switch.
If i plug in the ethernet cable from my router to the switch (Port 1, uplink) there is no problem, but as soon as i connect a secondary ethernet cable (The one running from the switch to my PC) Port 1 stars blinking red.
I have tried 3 different switches and multiple ethernet cables, both from router --> switch and from switch --> PC. I have also tested with all the ethernet ports in the router.

I really hope someone here knows what is wrong.

Thanks in advance

Solution
What if you connect two of the pc's through the switch with nothing else? They should assign themselves an IP after a minute or two. Leave the router out of the network. Then try to ping.

Does the network work when connected like that?
Some switches have a RED indicator light to show 1GB/s speed is being utilized.
please what is your switch, what is your router, and what is your motherboard or device you are using to connect to PC.

That is the biggest problem. Sometimes the network does work, and it runs perfectly fine. But when the red blinking light is there, i dont have connection to the router from my PC. It is also not a PC issue as i have tried connecting on 3 different pc's running either windows 10 or windows 7, and they all have the same problem. My router is a Tilgin HG2301 and the switch is an older Roline switch, but i cant find any other information about it

That is true. The router does have 4 ports, and the switch is connected to one of those ports. The reason i use a switch is because of the distance from the router to my computer, and the way the cables are in the house.
I have been dinning the routers IP from my PC, and it now connects to the router, but it drops around 90-90% of packets. It is also no longer blinking red in port 1 on the switch (The cable between router and switch)

So I have researched this thoroughly for you. From what I have read it seems to be because of the age of the Roline Switch you are using.
Newer routers and modems have great difficulty communicating with older switches that do not support 1G. Get a high speed switch that supports 1Gb/s and your router should communicate fine with the switch.

I believe the one other workaround that you might be able to try is changing the duplex negotiation on your COMPUTERS LAN CARD.

Change the Duplex Negotiation to HALF-DUPLEX for 10/100. Let me know your results :)

I tried changing to Half-duplex 10/100 but that just lost me the connection completely :)

After i reset it back again i seem to be able to connect to the router fine for a couple of minutes, but then i lost connection again (going from 1-2% packet loss back to 95%.) as of writing this i have about 2 mins of connection, then 2 minutes of no connection.

The network is not a new network though, it has worked fine for atleast a year, probably more.

You may be the victim of a telecom surge. It possibly did some damage to the router/switch? Have you tried connecting directly to the router?

I would unplug the modem, unplug the router, unplug the switch.
Wait till the modem is FULLY BOOTED.
When it is FULLY BOOTED, connect your ROUTER.
ONCE THE ROUTER is fully booted, CONNECT your SWITCH.

TURN OFF ECO ON THE ROUTER.

Please find your IP for your home, This is your Public IP, Do not post this.
Take note of your Modems IP(public IP of your Home)
Take note of your ROUTERS ip address

Now with everything connected.
Can I have you do traceroutes and ping tests to FIRST, The ROUTER IP address.
Take note of any packet loss.
now do the same TO YOUR MODEMS IP, Public IP not lan.
See where the packets are being destroyed/lost

If the pings go through the switch and router fine and seems to have trouble getting the the modem, chances are your modems going bad or Misconfigured.
If the pings stop at your router, then you know the routers a bad gateway.
if the pings cant reach the modem OR router, then its your switch.

Right, i did that :)

As before, if i connect through the switch and when i try pinging or tracing anything it times out (sometimes). If i connect directly to the router it works fine. Also, it is a combined router/modem :)

The problem is, i have tried 3 different switches. 2 rolines and an older netgear switch, and they all have the same problem

Okay, i tried that, and i did NOT expect the results (although i should have thought about doing this myself) :)

When connecting two computers to the switch there is no connection between them. I tried both with auto assigned IP's and manually assigning both pc's an IP and there was no connection.

The 2 PC's both use windows 10. I noticed the problem after upgrading one of the Pc's from win 7 to Win 10. The question is if it is the switches (all 3) not working, or if it is a win 10 setting that is messing something up.

It is probably the switch though, as i can connect just fine when plugged directly into the router
