I am planning to buy 8gb of DDR4 ram for gaming. Are the heatsinks nescessary? Or will i do just fine with the green ram sticks themselves to save money? Also is it better to pair 2x4gb sticks or will a single 8gb stick do fine? AND LASTLY - can you put 2400mhz on a 2133mhz supoort mobo? Will the ram work and just underclock itself?

heat-sinks are decorative for the VAST majority of RAM.
Decorative, you'll be fine with naked RAM sticks
If you get a pair of RAM make sure you get a matched pair. matched pairs are tested to work together as one unit. Dual channel Memory. Mixing RAM modules can be tricky at best. I suggest a matched pair, paying for a matched pair of RAM for Dual Channel Ram is a good thing, paying extra for decorative fashion is bad. IMHO. Dual channel Memory is a nice boost in performance.
The faster RAM will go at the available bus speed. the RAM should slow down to the 2133mhz.

The QVL is a good resource but it is not a list of the only RAM that will work. the QVL is simply a list of pre-tested units.

The RAM should underclock themselves, but if they don't you can go into the BIOS and do it yourself! I game without the heatsinks, and they work fine. You shouldn't need them unless your system overheats often. 2 GB sticks will run better in dual-channel than a single stick of 8gb, the only downside to 4gb sticks is that you won't be able to go over 16g, but you shouldn't need that much if you're only gaming anyway! Hope this helps!

The heatsinks are mostly for show, really they hardly do anything for RAM. Anyone who deals with servers and see no heatsinks realizes this pretty quick. Yes 2400mhz ram will run on a 2133mhz mobo now with that said it may only run at 2133 but most likely you will be able to run it at 2400 Mhz no issue.

The ram itself is not down clocking at all 2133Mhz is the default speed of DDR4 ram you have to use XMP profiles or overclock it yourself to get the speeds shown on the box. So yes if the board only supports 2133Mhz DDR4 ram you will be fine as that is the default speed of the ram.
