PhysX Slave GPU (Opinions)

So I have done a little research in the Borderlands 2 forums, and it seems a lot of people recommend using a slave card that is dedicated for PhysX usage.

I have an old GT 545 (Well actually two but that's besides the point) Anyway would that card be good enough to use as a slave card? I think it is either a 1GB or 1.5GB card.

If I can use the card I have some follow up questions. Do slave cards need to be run in SLI with my other card? (GTX 1070 FE) Also will a card of that age even work with a 1070?

Thanks in advance!

Solution
I have a 1070 played Borderlands 2 and Pre Sequel with highest physx settings. Not had a problem at all. Go to Nvidia control panel and set Physx to focus it on the 1070.

I am completely aware of that, but thanks. Basically I just would like to have the extra effects that PhysX adds when put on high in that game.

I don't know why you down voted the correct, best answer. You can use PhysX on the highest settings in any game with that 1070. No need for a separate PhysyX card. 10 years ago a separate card might have helped performance but today's GPUs are more than capable. Adding a lower end card like that GT 545 will hurt performance.

SLI is only with identical GPUs. You'd need another 1070.

Hmm, I must have done that by mistake because I do not know what you are talking about.

I guess just in Borderlands 2 it is very poorly optimized because it seems that no one, even people with better cards then a 1070 cannot use PhysX in that game without series issues. I will boot up Borderlands The Pre Sequal and see if it has the same issues.

I haven't played Borderlands 2 but I've never had a problem with having PhysX on in the few games I've played that support it. Even newer, more demanding games like Fallout 4, Metro 2033, Metro Last Light and Mafia II and I've never used a dedicated PhysX card.

Only a relatively few games support it.

What you're talking about sounds like a game being bugged issue more than a 1070 being underpowered issue

The problem carried at all levels in The pre squeal as well.

Must be an issue when they created these games. I played Fallout 4 and Mafia 2 and I'm sure I had PhysX on with those games and I don't recall having any issues there.

Well it's not a perfect fix but it is damn close, I'm sure I can do a little bit of .ini tweaking to fix the little bits of problems I am still having.
