Hi, I have three old hard drives that I want to check out, get some data off, but I didn't want to constantly opne up my desk top, take my current HDD out, put the old one in, repeat etc, so I bought a USB to SATA cable to run the old HDD's that way. I know the old HDD's still work when plugged in via motherboard, but I can't get my computer to recognize them when I use the USB Sata cable. Any ideas why or how to fix this?
Cheers

Quick update, it's a USB 2.0 cable with its own power supply (two USB connections, one for power, one for data)

If it is a 3.5 inch harddisk you will need 12V power. like said above.

get external harddisk dock.
