So im upgrading from an a8 cpu on the MS-7778 mobo and I bought an i5 3570 and an optiplex 790 mobo, all I need is a fan, but the ones made for it do not come with the retention brackets if I were to buy them(They are screw in fans with 5 pin connectors). My question is, can I use my MS-7778s retention bracket(which also uses a visually similar heatsink, only difference is the 4 pin connector) with the heatsink made for the mobo(lga 1155)? From what i've seen online is that the brackets/socket are the same dimensions as the intel brackets/socket(My MS-7778 is NOT using the standard AMD brackets, its a square shape), but im not sure.

Also better yet, could I just use the heatsink from my MS-7778 on the LGA1155 mobo? only difference is that my original heatsink fan has a 4 pin connector, and the new mobo/heatsink both use 5 pin. Or should I just buy a stock intel cooler(the pin ones that dont need to be screwed in)

sorry if my writing is bad/hard to read. any response is appreciated.

Solution
Retention mounts for CPU coolers are cooler specific, not platform specific. You have to watch out with those brand name computer components, they could be made to own standards and and may not comply with industry standards.
