If you are not overclocking the Ryzen 1700 the system with the 1080 would draw right at 375 watts and the 1070 system would draw about 325 watts. If you are OC'ing may not want to step up until you get a little higher wattage PSU even with the 1070 you will be pushing the wattage close to 430 even if its a fairly a mild OC on the 1700.

However a decent 550-600 watt PSU would cover an OC 1700 and a Gtx 1080.

Either of those cards would kill that PSU he has, it's that EVGA 80+ White power supply shaped object.

And he doesn't have the power connections for either card in the 1st place for the better cards so he needs a new one either way.

If you are not overclocking you will be fine with GTX 1070/1080 . Actually Dell XPS power supply is 460 watts and they sell it with GTX 1070 and i7 7700K

Asus Rog Gaming system comes with external 180+230=410 watts power supply and they sell it with GTX 1080 and i7 7700 ...

Just avoid overclocking.

keep in mind that the Ryzen 1700 is 65 watts only.

1) Johny Guru reviewed this PSU and its not bod at all. http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=431

2) It comes with one 2+6 Pin power connector. So if the OP was going to pick up a stock GTX 1070 like this one it would work just fine.

3) I would not get a 1080 until the OP stepped up the PSU.

4) If OC'ing the CPU already then get a new PSU prior to a 1070 or 1080.
