Can ryzen motherboards support 2 NVME SSDs?

hello.

my current build has a Samsung 960 EVO which i've been using as a boot drive for some time now. i have another SSD, a 950 PRO that came form another system. i just need to see what's on it. i plugged into my motherboard. the BIOS sees it, but when windows boots up the 950 PRO is MIA. not in the device manager or anywhere else.

so, what's the deal? does the second M.2 slot on ryzen motherboards not support nVME drives?

When reading the manual, it says

• 1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_1), supports type 2242/2260/2280 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module
up to Gen3 x4 (32 Gb/s)*
• 1 x M.2 Socket (M2_2), supports type 2230/2242/2260/2280 M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen2 x4 (20 Gb/s)*

This means, to me anyway, that you cannot have 2 SSD M.2 NVMe drives. Only the first M.2 slot supports a SSD NVMe drive. The second one only allows a NVMe PCI Express.

Check if it is shared with a SATA drive you are using. unplug that SATA drive and connect it to another SATA port.

you can also use an M2 to PCIe adapter and plug it into any free slot you have.

i'm not using any of the SATA ports. only storage device is the primary M.2. and i'm putting this SSD into the secondary M.2 slot



motherboard specs claim that second M.2 slot supports nvme drives even as a boot device.

the motherboard is the AsRock X370 fatal1ty professional.
