Hello all, I just got a new gaming PC and put it all together... I have a Asus STRIX A8G and I was wondering, do I need to use MSI Afterburner or Asus GPU Tweak in order to see it perform at the rated clock speed on the spec sheet? I'm not too sure how this works, but I thought that perhaps it's already factory overclocked then one wouldn't need any additional software to raise the clock speeds to the advertised clock rate. If all it is is a software setting, then why do they even sell factory overclocked boards? Do the overclocked boards have special hardware that can handle higher clock rates or something? Is that what it is?

Asus GPU Tweak wouldn't work for me. After turning on the graphs, it slowed processes down on my computer. A common problem I found while researching. Also, the general consensus is that MSU AfterBurner is a better OC program anyway.

So, what should I do now? Should I take my spec sheet and make sure that my Core Clock and Memory Clock in MSI AfterBurner matches up with what's on my spec sheet? What about boost clock? I don't see a setting in MSI Afterburner to set the boost clock. Perhaps it's because the Boost Clock is only set by hardware limitations and it's more like a maximum value for the core clock speed. Addiitonally, MSI AfterBurner comes with default values (+0) for Core Clock and Memory Clock. What would happen if I left those values where they are?

What clock speeds should I get without setting MSI Afterburner? Would I still get higher clock speeds than a base 1080 card?

What's the best free benchmarking program for video cards? I see Prime95 is used a lot. On the Asus Website some people use Unigine Heaven. Which is better in your opinion?

Well, I ran some games and my video card almost hit 2000 MHz and almost hit 11,000 MHz for the memory clock. That’s without changing any settings in MSI Afterburner. I don’t think I need to change any settings! What difference does 50-200 MHz make anyway?
