Hello All,

Recently i am facing the problem on my system where it automatically restarts when i start playing games or sometimes it gets hanged suddenly and i have to power off it manually and switch it on again.

Sometimes it restarts within 2-3 minutes of game play and sometimes after 15-20 minutes of game-play or sometimes it doesn't restart for like an hour or 2.

I cannot determine the root cause of this problem :( . I have made sure the hdds, gpu, ram's are installed/connected properly.

I build the below system in 2015(running on windows 7 - 64 bit) and facing such issue for the very 1st time.

CPU - Intel Core i5 4690.
MoBo - MSI Z97 Gaming 5
Ram - 4GB DDR3 * 2 Corsair Vengeance
GPU - MSI GTX 960 2GB
PSU - Corsair VS 650
Hardisks - 120gb SSD, 1 tb seagate HDD, 160gb seagate HDD
1 DVD rom.

Please if someone can guide me on the above issue.

Thanks in Advance :)

Solution
Could be temperatures, a case with poor cooling, not enough fans, weak fans, improper installation of heatsink/fan, improper application of thermal compound.

ARICH5 said you need a "better" PSU (as in "better quality"), he did not say the wattage isn't enough.
The Corsair VS models are not recommended for gaming.

Thanks Philip :) but my concern is whether the issue to really because of my PSU since i was using it for more than a year now and i played games like fifa, gta 5 for around 4-5 hours a day and never had this system hang/restart issue.

Sorry but i am quite confused with it :(

... his pc is entry level , no overclocking .. a simple PC and low wattage. advising him to change the power supply just because it is not on your tier list is wrong. it is not a faulty power supply and it should work fine. his all PC power usage is below 250 watts max load , and he is using a 650watt Corsair power supply . not like he is using no name Chinese power supply.

companies like DELL and HP and Acer and Lenovo use similar power supplies inside their PC and they work fine as well in gaming machines..

Dont rush and buy a power supply. First , clean all your system from dust very well . then check the cables , remove one memory stick and see if the problem stays or not .. also check the temps of the GPU and CPU while gaming monitor them .

The power supply could be failing as well. but not because it is not good for gaming, just maybe failed under warranty and needs service. but we dont know yet it is the reason behind this.

Thanks Samer, i did clean my pc 4 days back, and have cleaned it again today. But the issue still persist. when i switch on the pc but it will not display anything on the screen and it restarts again and this process keeps on going on.. and even if it starts, as soon as i login to windows the system hangs there itself.

I've had a similar situation before, except that fact that won't restart and yes, definitely lag a lot and was completely unacceptable, it was my hdd being faulty and always lagged.

What are the temps? Excess cpu temps (above 90C is very dangerous) can also cause the system to turn off or restart..

There're some possibilities:

*Power supply failing (faulty psu)
*HDD Failing
*Cpu overheat (no thermal paste?)
*Unstable CPU Overclock (if you're overclocking)

I suggest reset your BIOS settings, remove your CMOS Battery and place it back after 30 seconds.

Make sure all parts are seated perfectly back, good luck :)
