Hello everyone, keep in mind this is my first build
Also please read this post all the way to the end
So my specs are:
CPU:Intel core I7 7700K
!CPU COOLER: HYPER 212 EVO (broken, need to be replaced)
Mobo: Asus Tuf 270 Mark 2
Ram: Kingston Hyperx Fury (2x8gb ddr4)
Hhd:seagate 2tb
GPU: MSI geforce 1060 6gb
Case: Corsair SPEC-02
PSU: Cooler Master 550w 80+ Gold

Okay so this is what happened the "Hyper 212 Evo" i highly don't recommend it especially for your first build unlike most people ,im never buying it again XD its was a pain attaching it and in the process of attatching it i broke one of the feet off i was really frustrated and couldn't think straight decided (i know stupid decision) just improvise attach the 3 other feet and use some ziplocks for extra, well everything worked fine the temp was only a little over average, downloaded windows then when i went to the internet to download all the drivers of my parts (because i dont have an optical drive) well my pc got glitchy i got messages that the temp is too high and well eventually my pc crashed and i wasn't able to turn windows back on i tried multible times, now a month later i decided to try and turn it on and well i was suprised windows actually turned on, out of fear that it would happen again i turned it back off and did some research and found out well you dont attach a broken cpu cooler to your mobo well since windows turned on i think i got lucky and my cpu isnt permanently damaged right? (I hope) so if my conclusion is right all i have to do is replace the cpu cooler right? If you have a better idea of whats going on please tell me, so first i wanted to replace it with the noctua NH-d15 but well it doesn't fit in my case and i meed a special adapter for it to attach to my mobo..... Instead of making another reckless decision i decided to ask people who are more knowledge, which cpu cooler should i get? Thank you for listening

Firstly, the NH-D15 does not need a special adapter for Intel 11xx series cpus, the sockets might change, but the pin dimensions for cooler mounts haven't, if a cooler will fit 1155, it'll fit 1150 or 1151 just fine. This is regardless of any outdated material printed on websites etc. So no worries about that for cooler choices.

What you'll need to decide is just what you expect out of a cooler. It's a K cpu so there's a potential for OC. Some ppl do, some do not. Some push limits, most don't. Where do you fall. If you plan on pushing the limits of the cpu, you'll nerd the big air coolers like the NH-D15, but with ceiling limitations for coolers in your case, you'd probably need to switch to a 240/280mm AIO. If you just plan on...

If you just plan on moderate OC, I'd say a Cryorig H5 or similar like a Noctua NH-U12S, or if that's still too tall a NH-C14 design. To run at stock, the smallest cooler I'd recommend would be the Cryorig H7, which is slightly better than the hyper212 you have, but won't really take any OC or extreme usage like rendering too well. Much there will depend on if you can get vcore lower than stock voltages.
