Hi guys, so i have been dealing with this issue for a bit and and looking for some advice.

My computer will lock up and freeze after playing a game for a little bit. this forces me to hard shut down the computer.

Im starting to thing that its possibly the PSU, but let me tell you guys the chain of events:

We upgraded the GPU, CPU, cooler, and PSU a couple years ago. I was going from a 550ti to a R9 270x. a Phenom 2 to an FX8. a stock cooler to an H80i AIO cooler. and a 550 watt EVGA PSU to a 750 watt corsair PSU. all was well for a while. then a couple months ago, it started freezing. So far, i swapped the GPU to a brand new Zotac 1060 and the mobo from an MSI 970a-G45 to an ASRock 990FX killer (they are similar boards, but my original mobo wouldn't boot with the 1060) and the hard drive to a spare one i had. but it hasn't stopped freezing.

Whats the best way for me to diag this? i still have the old PSU, but i dont know the wattage demands of my setup. but overall, im thinking that my current PSU is having problems sustaining a moderate load.

i reimaged the old HDD first before trying the swap. and put a new windows 10 image on the one in there now. but overall, i cant see this being a software problem.

What do you guys think?

with amd 6000/8000 some lock up can be bad vrm on mb. when they heat up they fail and cause unclean power to the cpu. you swapped out the mb so i would rule out bad vrm on high end gaming mb. on your new power supply can be it rippling out when loaded. you need some high end tester to see if it rippling. your better off to try the old power supply. if your rig locks up with the old power supply see if amd has a cpu test program. may be bad cache or a failing cpu possessor.

that 550 should power that setup, I would swap it out and see if it continues to persist. If it does, could be RAM, if it doesnt, then we know its the PSU... basically you have swapped everything and it still happens... except RAM and PSU at this point. I have a similar problem, System specs are as follows:

MSI 990FXA Gaming MOBO (NOT OC)
AMD 8350 (NOT OC)
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) (PC3 14900) (XMP Profile 1 @1866)
Powercolor PCS R9 380 4GB (NOT OC)
EVGA SuperNOVA 750 P2, 80+ PLATINUM 750W (totally overkill)

It will shutdown and reboot though, and show a kernal power 41 error in event log... but it does reboot, not lock up... which is separate issues I believe. GOOD LUCK MATE!!!
