The fix will totally depend on the nature of the fault.
Realistically, you can check for physical damage, or any shorts being made inside the port. You can also check your device manager to see if all USB ports APPEAR to be functioning normally. Shorts can be rectified by removing whatever is making contact with the case when the PC is off.
It can be a risk, but also plugging in a different, empty/unwanted USB into the port and see if that corrupts too!
Equally, it may be driver related, in which case updating/reinstalling all USB drivers can also help. But I doubt it.
