Im looking to buy either a xeon x5650 or x5660 for a gaming rig. Low level oc intentions. But from what I gather the power consumption on both these seems to be high- I dont know if this is on a heavy oc or what.

According to Coolmaster calculator it they should use about 375W under load and I have a 400W. Yes Tech says it draws 700W! If power consumtion is so heavy I might have to abandon project. Does anyone have practicle experience with x5650/5660 chips regarding their power consumption?

As I said, Intel lists them both as 95W CPUs. I don't believe they will exceed 150W. But as I also said, Xeons are not overclock friendly. How they operate outside of Intel's boundaries, I have no idea.

Im going for the cheap generic boards that support xeons. My worry is then that they consume too much power (700W!). Not a worthwhile setup then if my electric is going nuclear. I dont even know if my psu will handle an x5650/60....
