Hi,

Iam building a coffelake system with below specs :

i7 8700k
Asus maximus X hero
fractal s36 aio cooler(Got the delivery already)
gksill tridentz 16 or 32gb 3000mhz ram
gtx 980(from current pc)
Seasonic 620w (from current pc)

Iam planning to get a 1440p 144hz gsync monitor, need suggestions on the monitor and also will the gtx 980 give me good fps(100 atleast) on 1440p when used on this spec?

Not nearly enough GPU power in today's games to exceed 60FPS at 1440p or even in a few GPU heavy hitters of recent years past like Watchdogs 2 or Witcher 3. You'll need to step up to a GTX 1080 for that. Unless you seriously crank down quality settings which would offset any higher resolutino advantage over 1080p.

dang. So if iam playing pubg on above build with all high, what's the max fps you think i would be hitting? Iam not able to see any benchmarks for above specs, so its really hard to determine which shud i go for. Also the monitor im thinking about these ones below :

Acer Predator XB271HU 27" WQHD IPS NVIDIA 2560X1440 (2K), 144 Hz G-Sync Black/Red Gaming Monitor

or

Asus Rog Swift 27inch 1ms 165Hz G-SYNC Eye Care Gaming Monitor (PG278QR) or PG279Q

Eximo

Titan
Ambassador
GTX980 I suspect would get 50-55 FPS @ 2560x1440 on recent titles. GTX1070 gets you around 70FPS. GTX1080 90FPS or so. GTX1080Ti is probably the best match without going SLI, but SLI just doesn't seem worth it.

If you can hold out on buying the monitor, and stick with your current GPU for a while, you might wait to see what 2018 brings.

Though the flip side would be to buy the monitor now and just put up with not being able to run it at max on all titles. That is what I am doing.

Iam tired of this waiting game, currently im running 980 paired with core2duo lol. I was gonna settle for skylake but decided to wait a little for coffelake hoping the extra core rumor be true and thank god its true.
I guess i have to go with the 2nd option for monitor , since my viewsonic lcd monitor is dieing slowly. Served me well for 6+yrs tho.

Here's a good idea of what to expect. I do not know what CPU they used, but at 1440p it really doesn't matter much. Bear in mind it's a six month old reference benchmark and the game has gone through a lot of updates to improve performance. But it does give you an across the board spectrum look. Scroll down and use the drop down menu in the benchmark to move to 2560x1440p resolution. Note the GTX 970 shows 47 minimum/49.3 maximum FPS. Add 10% for the GTX 980 which was not tested there. Also, this is a Denmark link, so you may need to translate the web site to English.

Oh wow, you really are bottlenecked. The old rule of thumb on waiting is don't wait if you need to upgrade. Ever since the second generation Core i series (Sandy Bridge) each new generation/step has yielded very little performance increase. You have to skip three or more generations/steps to appreciate any difference. But yes, Coffee Lake is worth the wait for those who have say Haswell (4xxx series) or earlier.

That was really useful link, so that confirms that hitting 60fps itself is doubtful on a 980.

haha ya, i know i waited too much. So gonna get this upgrade done this time, Also getting a 8700k curretly is very hard, out of stock everywhere. Two shops nearby me have told me that they would get it today or tomorrow. So hopefully will set this up in a couple of days and run on 1080p till i upgrade the card. Thanks alot for your inputs.

Yeah Coffee Lake is in high demand right now from people upgrading with several generation old Intel CPUs (like my Haswell). I'm holding out for Cannon Lake next year and the 10mm die shrink. If it turns out to be a fail, I'll go with a Coffee Lake build. It's typical of Intel to paper release a CPU with limited production supplies until they get their fabrication fully up and running. I to this day still do not understand why they do that. I think AMD nipping on their heels has something to do with it, lol.

Tell me about, srsly this kinda release annoys the fk outa me. Hell ya, Ryzen really gave a nice wake-up call for intel.
If iam unable to get a 8700k in another week or so, im gonna ditch the i7 and get 8600K. Will lose the hyperthreadding/ extra cache but anyways i only game on my pc, no productivity whatsoever.
