Recently, I bought one stick of dual channel 8GB RAM with the intent of buying the other stick in a month. I'm wondering if putting this stick in the motherboard will work without both sticks, and if it will should I see any performance issues if I chose to game on ultra settings? (specifically The Witcher 3)

RAM: Ballistix Sport LT 8GB DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) DR x8 DIMM 288-Pin
Motherboard: ASRock X99 Extreme4 - motherboard - ATX - LGA2011-v3 Socket

No problem it would work fine, it would just run in single channel as it is a single stick.

No, RAM will not play a part in gaming performance of the system. Increasing graphic setting of the game to ultra will mostly affect the GPU (and the CPU to a lesser extent).

However, to get the most out of that motherboard (which supports quad-channel) is if you put 4 sticks of identical RAM (specs indicated on mobo manufacturer's website or the manual). Although this will neither have any real impact on gaming.

That's weird because I managed to get the Witcher 3 working while on a constant 60fps but using MSI Afterburner I can see my frametime is absolutely tanking it with extreme jumpiness even just on high settings. I've tried turning NVIDIA's control panel Vsync on and turned maximum prerendered frames to 1 but to no avail.

GPU: ASUS GeForce DUAL-GTX1060--O6G 6 GB Graphics Card
