How far should I over clock my i7 920 with stock cooler

I have a p6t mobo from asus and I have stock cooler I was going to over clock to 2.6 to 3ghz i was wondering if that was safe thanks.

With good coolers they have been overclocked to 4GHz or so.

So yes, with stock cooler aim for stability. I forget the exact overclock methods, though it's probably mostly a frequency (multiplier) plus voltage combination.

*make sure to keep the voltage high enough to be stable, but don't go higher than needed as that in turn raises the TEMPERATURE (and thus fan noise).
