Greetings,

Before I pull the trigger on getting a new motherboard I wanted to ask the community about a problem I have been having recently with my PCIE lanes, specifically PCIE2. My BIOS is up to date and temperatures are normal during load and idle.

My PC specs are as follows..

Z270 Gaming K6 Bios version P2.10
Intel i17 7700K watercooled with Corsair Hydroseries H100i
32BG G.Skill RAM DDR4 XMP profile
EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2, 1000W
GTX 970 SLI

When the computer is under load and a VGA card is inserted in PCIE2 the computer completely locks up and I have to use the power button to restart, the reset button has no effect. I have tried each card in PCIE2 and both give the same result, I have tried using a different cable for the power supply but to no avail. I inserted each VGA into PCIE4 to test the cards and ran without problems for a couple weeks, under load and idle. I can only recreate this with a card in PCIE2 in SLI mode and with only 1 card.

While under load I looked in NVIDIA inspector to monitor the voltage to the cards and it seems to be stable. So this leads me to my question. Is this a problem with the PCIE2 slot or am I missing something? It just seems weird that while not under load the lane seems to be functioning fine.
