Help plz the fan on my sons psu has started to run really loud and making a vibrating noise only started over the past few week, used to be really quiet ( evga g2 1000w 80 plus) can this be fixed or does he need a new psu, if needing a new one does it have to be a g2 ? also is a 1000w psu overkill for his pc ? what would be the lowest watt he would need if needing a new psu specs msi gaming 5 mobo msi gtx 970 gpu, i7-4770k cpu, Corsair H100i w,cooler, 16 gb Corsair vengeance, 2x250 ssd 2x1tb HD any advice would be appreciated as don’t really know much about this type of stuff, thanks

Solution
If the fan has become noisy it may be failing. Check if the PSU fan is clean or if it is under warranty.

No computer with a single graphics card needs a 1000W PSU. A good supply at least 600W would be plenty with the GeForce 970 (145W card). Allowing for a 250W card as an upgrade, a good 750W supply would be more than enough.

The EVGA G2 are a very good supply, the 750W model is great value for a top quality supply.
The EVGA B2 supplies are also pretty good. Also consider XFX, Seasonic or Antec HCG series (avoid Antec VP).
Anything from tier one or two on this list:
