Hi all I posted in tech support yesterday with my computer programs its either GPU/MOBO/PSU related since my computer won't post with the graphics card in I get only a black screen but the onboard video with the card out works fine. Anyway I RMA'd the card and am waiting for a replacement probably will send me a gtx 9 series or something.
In the coming days/month, I'm looking to upgrade my current build setup:

  • Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. System Model: GA-78LMT-USB3 (purchase 2014) BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
    Processor: AMD FX(tm)-6100 Six-Core Processor (6 CPUs), ~3.6GHz
    Heatsink Hyper 212 EVO
Storage: 1x - 250gb SSD 850 EVO for OS and games, 1x - 500gb HDD was old main before ssd backup files and backup OS if SSD fails, 1x - 2TB HDD 6+ years old original HDD from my 2011 build still runs well and has backup files as well so running 3 total hard drives.
    Memory: 8192MB RAM
    PSU: Corsair CX600M
GPU: EVGA GtX 760 (purchased 2014)

My day to day use is web browsing/ video rendering with sony vegas/ photoshop editing/ gaming with Overwatch/Fortnite/WoW/PUBG. MAYBE streaming 1-3hrs per day. I run them at low-medium settings until my card went out with problems. Now with onboard I can't game at all just web browse and watch twitch.
Budget is around $750-850 with amazon prime free shipping, I live in Hawaii so I have to order all my parts.
I'm willing to make the switch to intel I was looking at the i3-8100 new gen seems like a good transition if I can get a decent priced mobo around $150-175 I saw for that and some new ram. Otherwise I'm open to suggestions. Thank you all for your expert advice.

With what you do other than gaming, I'd be looking more towards a Ryzen R5 1600. Using Sony Vegas, I'd also be looking at an AMD gpu. SV hasn't had decent support of nvidia cards since the 5xx series and makes much better use of gflops than Cuda.

I was thinking of doing this but for about $240-250 I get a slight increase of performance maybe 20% cpu increase and double my ram which is nice but then later down the road I cant use that cpu or ram if i go intel so its a dead end $250 upgrade or invest that $250 into a new build hard choices..

I would absolutely not upgrade to an 8350 - 125W AM3+ CPUs tend to work fairly poorly in budget motherboards like this, thanks in large part to anemic voltage regulator modules. It's definitely a far better idea to invest in a more modern platform.

What you think about keeping all my current parts and just upgrading the mobo/cpu/ram to the new 8th gen i5-8400 with
ASUS PRIME Z370-A and 16gb RAM for about $790 on amazon prime.

Well...that's mostly a whole new PC. And you might as well get a better GPU to go with that.
And a far cry from your earlier "$240-250"

Only things you would be keeping is the case, drive(s), and the PSU.
Not an 'upgrade', but rather a full rebuild.

Yeah for $250 I can upgrade it 20% but its not future proofed its like dead in water so its not worth it even tho my OP was wanting to save I still mentioned last sentence about looking into the 8th gen intel since I don't have an intel i5 anyway its not too much of a loss its more like a 115% cpu upgrade in performance. The only negative thing is my RMA'd card will most likely be a GTX 960 and i'll be bottlenecked like 15% probably :/ .

That is a nice idea maybe I should do that instead what GPU would you recommend to go with it? I was looking at RX480 but they are hard to find vs getting a gtx 1060 or something?
