Hello,

I have an alienware aurora ALX 2009. 16gb of RAM, Dell X58 motherboard, BIOS version A04, with an Intel i7 920 processor.

I recently purchased an I7 980 which appears to be compatible with this motherboard.
After installing the new processor, the pc turns on, i hear the fan run and then 4 beeps, then it goes into the same cycle.
I put back my I7 920 and it boots back up perfectly fine.

Is this a problem with my BIOS not recognizing the new processor? How can I fix this.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

Solution
I think the i7 980 may have problem, or the dell does not put the i7 980 cpu code into the A04 BIOS so that the PC can't support the i7 980. Because the pc works well with the i7 920, also the dell only provided the A04 version BIOS, so nothing you can do. Double check the dell site to see they said the pc can support the i7 980 or not. But anyway you need to return the i7 980.
