Bought a rm1000x on new egg on sale. Decides to test it on my old pc while waiting for coffee lake stock. My old pc is a prebuilt up desktop from 2009 with updated r9 270x, evga 500b PSU and an ssd.

When I connected the corsair rm1000x my pc continually reatarted and would not post. No motherboard beep and blank screen. When I reinstalled the evga 500b I got a blank screen but the beep sounded like it was posting. I bought a new cmos battery and it will now get to Windows with the 500b, though I need to reconfigure the bios I think. Tried the rm1000x and the fans spin but no beep and a blank screen.

Do you think I got a bad psu?

Solution
If you are using the cables that came with the RM1000x then it looks like you might have gotten a bad PSU...

You ofc tripple checked that every cable is connected correct and plugged all the way in and seated properly?

Excellent question. Used the cables that came with the rm1000x. Have it connected to the evga 500b again and it will get to Windows. I don't have other cables for the corsair supply so I can't test that.

Yep. When it first failed I told myself something has too just be loose. I reseated everything and was convinced a couple wires were just not fully in the first time. When it didn't work again I tried using different cables for the sata, pcie and peripheral connections. Didn't have an extra 4 pin or 24 pin to try that. The first night it would not work with the original power supply either, so I was convinced it was the board or ram. Though the motherboard did do it's usual beep when I plugged back in the evga power supply.

Last night I replaced the cmos and it would get to Windows, though Windows won't load. Connected the new power supply and it continuously restarts without even pressing the power button, also what it did the first night. No motherboard beep at all, though the graphics card and case fans spin.

Reconnected the old power supply and it now will get to Windows, though there is something wrong with the install because it runs the windows 10 self diagnostic. I will worry about that later though, I can always reinstall windows as long as there is something loading.

Thanks for helping out! It is probably just a cable or loose wire, but if I start tearing it apart I can't return it. Not that I have done a lot of this, but this has just been the first part I got that seems bad. I guess I am happy I tested it though. (Also sorry for the poor gramer. Posted from my phone last night. )
