Hello, I currently own a G4560 CPU and its been working so good, no complaints here, but I'm thinking of upgrading to a i5 8400 when it comes out or a i7 7700, and I currently own a MSI B250M MORTAR as the mobo, and since it is compatible with the i7 and I think it will be compatible with the new i5 8400 ( I think)

So I was wondering if when upgrading the cpu would it wipe everything from my ssd? As in windows and the data? Or would it just start as always just with the new cpu?

Thanks

This is Intel we are talking about ,they named the socket the same but in reality you need a new z370 series board to run the 8*** series CPU's

Yeah I know !!!

& yea you can generally just change the CPU out for something like the 7700 (which is still a great CPU) with no-issue whatsoever.

Worst case scenario youll have to do a cmos reset on the board which is a 2 minute job.

But I've seen that the new i8s come with the socket type LGA 1151 and my mobo's socket type is exactly that one, am I missing something else here??

Also if I decided to get the i7 7700 and replace the G4560 and start my computer like I always do, would it start like it normally does?
