Greetings,
I just recently bought some 2x8GB-3200 G-Skill RAM (C16), to upgrade from my 8GB 2133MHz RAM, and i can't get both DIMM's to work on 3200MHz.
I plugged them both in DIMM slot 2 and 4, as the manual suggests.
At first i tried with XMP on, and the MSI Memory Try It! feature (i think they're just XMP presets) set on Hynix (The dies on the memory are Hynix-A i believe).
This didn't even get me past the bios, it gave me an error 'The previous overclock settings have failed'
Turning off Memory Try It! resolved this. But Windows gave me a series of worrying errors about memory issues and missing kernel files.
I remove the one in DIMM 4, and suddenly Windows starts fine, with fortunately no windows files harmed (8GB 3200MHz with XMP on).
I've also got it to work 16GB 2133MHz with XMP off, but I can't get it to work on 3200, and also tried 3000, which didn't work either.
I'm now sticking with 16GB-2133, but i was wondering if i can up this to at least 3000 somehow.
Important specs are:
MSI Z170 GAMING M5
Intel Core I5-6600K overclocked at 4,2 (I've tried running stock 3,5 with 16GB-3200, didn't help)
G-Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3200C16D-16GTZR
GTX 1070 (not relevant i think)
Corsair CS650M - 650W PSU
Windows 10 Pro
