low fps / stuttering / high cpu usage

hello i've build me a new system and i can't wrap my head around it didn't find any real help me me aswell on the internet.

my friend who has a 4y old system can run games 4-5 times better than me.

always much lower framerates stutterings and high cpu usage in my oppinion, ive installed all the necesary drivers on my computer, did a hard reset cleaned everything out, tried ddu and reinstalled the drivers via clean instal path but still no succes.

also changing settings in the games has little to no effect.

bios flashed asswell

my system specs are:

ryzen 5 1600x
msi gtx 1080 z gaming
trident z 3200mh
msi pro carbon x370

Try turning off v-sync and using afterburner instead.
Clean out your temp folders (%temp% and %windir%\temp)
Try setting your CPU in game mode. AMD processors by default have some issues in games due to their CPU being really 2 CPUS glued together with really high latency between the cores. Game mode turns off half the CPU.
Also because there is no 144hz 1440p g-sync montor shipping, I assume you are not playing with G-Sync. You can try either using fast-sync OR you can try running the monitor at 100hz and see what that does. Maybe even 60hz.

Have you tried what I suggested as well? Your system is not ideal, but it should be game-able.

thanks for the fast reply, i have my cpu and gpu running in OC mode with the msi gaming app, also i put game boost on in bios.

read something about turning v sync off in nvidea panel but didnt do a damn thing.
the screen i have is:lg 34uc79g btw really wish to use the 144hz tough i paid 600 for the thing would be a total waste of money if i just ran it at 60hz.

Also i might add that some games go better than others but still there is a massive frame gap between my friends and mine.
now we are playing borderlands 2 for the lulz again and i'm struggling to keep a mere 60 fps even dropping to 15-20fps with alot off mobs en stuff.

The thing is 144fps x 2560x1080 is quite a bit of data to be pushing. So when things aren't working quite right one of the smart things to do is to check every variable. However Borderlands 2 should be CAKE on a 1080 @60fps. So something else is going on. Check what starts with your PC (SysInternals tools), temp folders, etc.

just tried switching the the screen HZ nothing chances did every possibility between 144 and 60 also changing settings in the games doesn't chance anything from my fps

and could you walk me trough that process? i know a thing or 2 but not that much tbh xs

Start by downloading SysInternals tools. Check what is starting with your PC (run autoruns).
Press the Window Key and the R key and then type %temp% in the run-window. Delete all those temp files.
Press the Window Key and the R key and then type %windir%\temp in the run-window. Delete all those temp files.
Check what you have running in the background. Nothing should run in the background while gaming. To do this alt + tab out of the game and run the taskmanager (or the better one in SysInternals).
Run Malwarebytes anti-malware. Malware is a very common problem.
Next run CPU-Z to see what your CPU is running at. Run a few benchmarks and compare against similar systems listed online.

tried everything you said still no difference, there was no malware detected aswell.

in the temp folders there where 2 things i couldnt delete

2 things you can't delete means nothing. I think the benchmarks will be interesting since something is not right. I would guess either your CPU or GPU are not running at the right speed.

btw: this will sound backwards. But if you are overclocking, stop and test without it as well.

no overclocks took place and oh yeh th ething i did was put my ram timings like the ones on the sticker and put to 3200, the timings kept but they still run at 2100 something, setting everything standard doesnt chance a thing btw

Your ram is probably running a 2133mhz. I wouldn't worry about that.
Combined score seems a little low... might be your CPU.
What is your CPU running at? Is it still in 'game mode' or?

Ultimately I don't see a redflag there. Nothing to suggest why you can't run borderlands at 60fps.

I remain convinced that one of these two must be going on:
1. something else is running while the game is running
2. Something in your PC is not running at its rated speed (CPU/GPU)
What I am uncertain of:
I don't trust your CPU. Ryzen has proven to be slow at some games and I am very skeptical that you have actually used "game mode". Not because I don't "trust" you, but because it would be about the simplest explanation for otherwise unexplained results.

checked again now gpu is running at 1900 something
cpu when im playin only runs around 2100

But that isn't the high CPU usage your title says. Your CPU is 3.7/4ghz. So you were running just over 50%.

Maybe try:
bcdedit /deletevalue useplatformclock
in a CMD window. Turns off the High Precision Event Timer (not needed and can suck a bit of CPU performance.
Update the powerplan:

In the Cortana search box (next to the Start button) type troubleshooting
Under System and Security, you'll see the choice Check for performance issues. Run that.
Run the other troubleshooters, including System Maintenance, Search and Indexing, Hardware and Sounds, and Programs.
