Hey guys,

So my buddy is selling his 1 year old pc. Its a hp phoenix omen, with a i7 4700, 8GB DDR3 RAM, and a 600 Watt Power Supply. Hes giving it to me for a $100. Looks like I could fit a gtx 1070 in there, and I wouldn't have to purchase a new power supply so the only things I would be upgrading would be the Graphics card and possibly the CPU cooler.

My question is, is it worth buying and upgrading this? I have never had a gaming pc and this seems to be a good start if I can upgrade it without it bottle necking too much.

Thanks!

As a good start for a gaming machine, i'd suggest you kick it off with a GTX1060, provided you can't pin point the make and model of the PSU. Only when we're sure that the PSU is of reliable build and of good quality is it a good idea to suggest a beefier card like the GTX1070/100Ti/1080/1080Ti. On another note, is the i7-4700 you speak of an unlocked suffix processor part? You could drop in an SSD(if it's not included).

Oh right, what are you getting for 100USD? Only the chassis, CPU, motherboard, ram and PSU?

All that for just $100? Yes! Take the deal. It's probably a Core i7 4770 or 4770K. The 4770K is worth $200 easily. If you wanted to you could easily resell that PC for $300. Also you could upgrade it with a graphics card of your choice. Any Graphics card will work with the Core i7 4770/k and provide excellent performance.
