Corsair PSU rm750i - safety concerns?

Hello,

Recently as I have been playing games, computer would restart after an hour or two and come up with a message on the bios screen "Asus Anti-Surge Protection triggered".

Now after some research its:

1. High chance ASUS is over sensitive and will trigger on gaming rigs.
2. minor chance that there is some fault going on and it would be the PSU.
3. Very unlikely to be the PSU if the PSU is of good quality.

So I did check out the tier list but because I'm technologically inept, the corsair rm750i is listed as "tier 1" but it is in black which means it is "standard". I've no idea what that tells me. I am worried that I am reading it wrong too as there is another corsair of a much lower rank but is rm750 (no 'i')

So is the build and safety quality of the corsair rm750i good?
I am in a lucky position to get a brand new one very cheap as well(exactly same model) - sent by a buddy. I plan to swap out the PSUs with the brand new corsair rm750i next week to see if that helps. My concern is if it still pops up, it would mean its the ASUS being overly sensitive. The "solution" would then be to disable the surge trigger but then I am worried about the corsair unit blowing up etc.

Does a faulty corsair rm750i unit damage internal items? Is it relatively safe? if not, what is a safe unit? I know old corsair units have reports of screwing up and taking half the motherboard with it. I also know good PSUs should ruin itself before ruining any other component (thats how they are designed).

I appreciate the responses.

thanks for your response buddy. reassuring as the other advice I see was get evga 2g or bust!!111!! and I was getting worried as I got a corsair and cant get a cheap evga but can get a cheap corsair rmi.

I am a computer noob and previously ive been a laptop guy and before that I was basically using pretty damn weak pcs for the basics (high school, gaming on console mostly). This is my first gaming pc.

Basically my main concern was the PSU blowing up, setting fire and causing sydney's great burning of 2017

So my follow up question is if this psu were to break down, as its a modern psu would it just break down?(like as you play game it just turns off? (I know they boast Japanese tech which ensures the psu will not damage surrounding units and suicide its own capacitors first).

I know older corsair units that were defective would blow everything even the graphics card

damn, I didn't know it was comparable to evga, maybe its just the recommendation threads ive seen where everyone is praising evga.

thanks you have been very helpful. I did some looking up myself too. 4-5 stars across the boards on reviews. not much about safety but it seems all quality units have a certain safety level.

I have heard of PSUs setting houses on fire. Keep them clear of dust, and it helps to keep them in a well ventilated environment. Its funny because if you look on Amazon.com reviews of this Corsair, they are really mixed. Most PSUs have fuses that burn out killing the PSU itself preventing damage to the whole PC.

Amazon reviews are useless, people could have all kind of stupid reasons to give a bad review.
For the other, there is a little more to it than just a simple fuse. Please do some reading first, before posting stuff like that. Start by looking up these safety circuits that are inside a high quality PSU and you will learn that it's not just a fuse.

SCP - Short circuit protection
OPP - Overpower (overload) protection
OCP - Overcurrent protection
OTP - Overtemperature protection
OVP - Overvoltage protection
UVP - Undervoltage protection

relax bro, I am not saying your house is going to burn down with your PSU. I am saying that as a IT contractor for a big firm in the Northeast I have come in contact with clients that have issues like these and are not tech savvy. You mentioned you were not tech savvy so I was talking to you like a client. As for Amazon, got many of my parts for my PC by reading reviews, and I have had it strong for 6 years and it still runs like a Lambo.

I'm not the one who created this thread, I think you confuse me with OP.
And no his house will not burn down with the RMi series, i could with the cheap crap units that some are using though.
