Installed a new GPU and PSU and no signal to monitor

My system build is:

- Intel i5 4690k
- MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Mobo
- Gigabyte GTX 1070
- EVGA 850w GQ
- Corsair Vengeance 16gb DDR3
- 120GB SSD
- 1TB HDD

A while ago my PC kept shorting out and eventually it corrupted my OS, so I left it for a month or so and eventually replaced the PSU (bc I assumed that was what was causing the problem, as I had many other problems with it before) and whilst I was at it got a new GPU too.

I installed the new parts which was relatively easy, however at first the PC wouldn't boot up properly, it booted for half a second that switched off. Took me a good hour to figure out that the GPU wasn't slotted in properly. Now the GPU is slotted in fine and it boots fine, so I connected it up to my monitor, with my new copy of Windows 10 in hand ready to set it up, yet the monitor displays no signal???

I tried both the HDMI and DVI ports on the GPU and neither of them are showing any signal. And yes I'm definitely connecting the cables to the GPU and not the motherboard, just to rule that one out. Also, I have tried connecting my laptop up to my monitor and that works fine so it's definitely not the monitor.

I mentioned the mistake regarding the slotting of the GPU earlier in the thread on purpose, as I am worried there is a chance I may have damaged it by doing this???

pls help :'c

EDIT:

- Tried using the display ports on the motherboard, with and without the GPU being installed.

I think you're referring to your i5 as the 4690K processor part instead of the 3690K ;)

Have you made sure your motherboard BIOS is up to date? Have you tried installing your OS with the monitor connecting only to your motherboard display outputs? You may wan to set up your system as breadboard. Do you have another GPU at hand, since you mentioned getting a new GPU?

c.) Yes I do have GTX 970 spare :))
