They have a good deal on ram now and I can get same amount of ram single channel than dual for 25% cheaper, running a 4 slot z370 board for i5 8400.

No gaming, just productivity.

I bought the single channel 16 gigs vs 2*8, cause quite a bit cheaper, then will be handy to upgrade to 32 some day, no intention of 64.

So basically, it's kind of like getting 16 gigs of ram for the price of 12, so I take it the extra 4 gigs would offset the single channel handicap?

I hope this makes sense? I heard that dual channel vs single doesn't make much difference?

That is fine and dandy till you upgrade by adding another 16GB stick and it don't work together.
Single sticks are about always cheaper because it's just one stick instead of 2.

Dual channel is faster indeed and really worth considering. The point in buying in kits is that they'll probably work in dual-channel right of the bat, while if you get a single stick and add another later on the dual-channel may not work as intended.

With that said, for 25% less you'll get the same amount of RAM you'd with 2 sticks and can later on upgrade to 32GB while if you desired to do that, you would have to get another expensive kit.

If you're lucky, the next single stick you buy will be able to dual-channel with your current one and everything will be fine. But that's the luck in the dice.

IMHO grab the single stick upgrade later on and hope for the best. The speed difference is significant but not enough IMHO to waste that deal.

So the 16 gig better for now right? I don't see myself needing more for a very long time, stick is Kingston huperx furry 2133 so should be easy to find a matching stick if I ever desire...anyways, too late now, already bought the 16 gig and will build this afternoon!
