Hi,
This PC was built for me in 2011 for 3D rendering and has always worked well. It has a Intel i7 2600k PCU and 16 gigs of RAM (Kingston Hyperex, I think I can read ). Win 7 Pro.

I should have left well enough alone. I decided to try to OC it following what seemed to be a good online video tutorial. After that it would not start up. I get the start up screens, but a blue screen flashed very quickly (too fast to read) also. I still can enter UEFI Bios Utility (through setup mode)mode and acess the BIOS from there, so I downloaded the recent Bios from ASUS and loaded them, correctly I think(EZ Mode screen shows BIOs version 3701). I can navigate in the advanced mode and chage all the settings if I want, but I am just trying to get my computer back!
I get:
1.) the "ASUS motherboard logo" screen twice
2.) the Blue unreadable screen very fast
3.) The grey Windows screen saying the Errors and giving me the choice to start up normally (just returns to here) or to try to use WIndows tools to repair. (Which I have done many times, to no avail..)

I have also

removed the two RAID data disks
removed a Wifi card I had installed
Cleared the CMOS twice (moving the CLRTC jumper cap for 10 seconds as per ASUS manual), once with battery removal as well.

Still I cannot get past these startup screens and it hits a wall with the grey (with text) repair through Windows options which lead nowhere.
I called the dealer who said if the Bios Flash went 'wrong' then the mobo is dead, and since an old mobo, I need a new rig (also suggested trying to buy the same mobo used..) They seem like they just want to sell me a new computer...

What can I do?

I see that some people replace the actual Bios chip (very inexpensive compared to whole new PC).

Thaks in advance-
Peter

Solution
SO, I have success, I went into the BIos settings and found that the SATA wasn't set to IDE disk for some reason. I swtiched to that and it's working.

Moral of the story: WHne I tried to OC, I wasn't careful enough. So then I tried to putdefault settings back in th eBIOS which worked. What I didn't know was that the default settings were not adapted to my actual build (not set on IDE) and so I lost computer fonctionality. Just lucky a friend mentioned that they were IDE disks and that I came cross those settings. Thanks again.

HI Kasper,

No I haven't tried to re-install Windows. Nowhere in any forum have I seen that as a suggestion. In your experience, it would possibly solve the problem?

Thanks-

Peter

It's hard to say, but it's worth a try before you go out spending money. As you can boot into BIOS, a new BIOS chip wont make a difference as your BIOS is working. Did you also try to load optimized defaults in BIOS.

I tried to repair and restore, (but not re-install from the original DVD), and it doesn't help. I suppose I could just do a clean install and re-install my programs (not a big deal,I use few pro 3D programs, plus browser, etc..)

So if the BIOs chip is ok (duh! I should have understood this from the fact that I can access the UEFI Bios interface.)

So then does this mean I fried something when I was messing with OC-ing?

Thanks again!

Unless you put to high a voltage on something then you shouldn't have damged anything, and even then you would most likely have damaged your CPU, in which case you wouldn't be able to boot into BIOS at all or even get the computer to post.
Let me ask, did you mangle with the RAM speed and voltage as well or only CPU clock?

Thanks fo ryour time!,
I don't think I changed any RAM speed numbers. Just the clock.

In meantime, I have tried with only one stick of RAM and then with another in a different slot, and I have exactly the same result. I have F5'd in Bios to try to get to default settings many times.

I thought maybe it was a disk priority error ,but but I think I have chosen the Main drive correctly un number of times and so it isn't that. I was thinking of buying a new mobo battery (trying all the cheapfixes first..)

But according to you, THe CPU is still Good, leaving only some part of the mobo I may have fried?

Is it still possible that I have to correct settings in the advanced mode of Bios UEFI settings?

Peter

Just do a clean a Windows install first.
