The noise of the Gigabyte GTX 1080 Windforce OC

So, I just bought the GeForce GTX 1080 Windforce 8GB OC from Gigabyte.

And the disappointment came when I decided to benchmark some games (Rainbow Six, BattleField 1 etc) the noise was unbearable and went up to 60dB under load with the case completely closed (I do have a window). Besides from that there is also a little rattling noise (which, excuse my language, is fucking ridiculously annoying).

I'm unsure whether this has happend before to someone because I kind of want a solution to this noise problem. Or, am I just whining? Is 60dB actually something normal with these GPU's?

I don't know about that specific GPU, but if noise is something you care about you should have gone with one of the cards with better cooling solution like the Gigabyte Xtreme edition or Asus Strix cards.
I must admit however, that 60db seems a lot for even that card assuming you did actually measuring the noise and not just taking a guess?

Indeed I did monitor the noise, and it maxed at 60dB in noise and besides a rattling noise, which it appears more people have had issues with. It's kinda bugging me.

Besides, I didn't think noise was gonna bother me this much. 30-50dB is fine to me but it went up to 60dB which definitely makes a difference, had I known it would be this bad I would have bought a different card.

If your card is all new, then you should return it and get one of the cards i suggested. I have a Gigabyte Xtreme myself, only a GTX 1070 but still. I never hear it, the fans doesn't kick in until the card hits 50 C, and even then the fans never go higher than around 45% and is almost inaudible.

50C? That's ridiculous, if I put my card under some load it'll go up to 70-75C and the fans'll kick in pretty rough (Running Origins Black Ops 3 on Max settings)

After 1 hour of torturing my card, it's still only around 71-72 C with the fans around 55 %. With gaming it stays below 65 C at all times with fans around 45%, usually sitting around 57-60 C depending on the game. A GTX 1080 may run a bit hotter but the cooling solution on the Gigabyte Xtreme cards are very good. It's actually 3x100mm fans instead of the normal 80mm fans used on most GPUs and as i said you never hear them.
Even if i ramp up the fans manually to 100% it's just a very low sound, and not unpleasant in any way.

Right well I've made my back-up plan. I am going to do some research and if the sound still bothers me within a week, which is mostly going to consist of benchmarking (I have 30 days to bring this card back) I think I'm going to bring this back, and instead purchase the MSI Gaming X 1080.

I've had a Gaming X 1060 card which has really been a great card for the ''whole'' 6 months I had it. And the 1080 card seems to also be out there to be one of the most quiet cards alongside the ASUS STRIX (according to this article at least: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/palit_geforce_gtx_1080_gamerock_premium_edition_g_panel_review,12.html)

Thanks for your help !
