Hi, I'm wondering if a 1050ti would work with my dell optiplex 7010 sff motherboard. I switched everything into a bigger case so there should be enough space. I also have a 500w power supply. If there is anymore info you need just ask me. Thanks

I think there are a few models with a 6-pin power connector like GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GV-N105TWF2OC-4GD .

The 6-pin is basically used in some models for overclocking and pushing the GPU to work at higher clocks/speeds (usually on 2-fan models). By default 1050 Tis need 75W to work which is provided by standard PCIE gen 2 and 3 slots.

Dell, however, sometimes implement proprietary standards in their devices.

On paper with a 500W PSU, a graphics card with a 6-pin PCIE power connector from the PSU should work. I would check with Dell support before buying. If it's a hardware electronics design which limits the board to only provide 50W adding GPU with a 6-pin PCIE power connector is a gamble. Because that board's electronics are...

Thanks for your response. I think I have an I-5 and my psu is 500w so that should be fine. I'm just wonder because the manual says my pcie slot only give 50w while the graphics card needs 75w would that be a problem

Yes I didn't see that as I think a PCIE gen 3 slot theoretically outputs 75W and that's what the 1050 Ti needs.

As stated by PCI-SIG documentation 75W can be fully drawn thru x16 connector (≤25W at initial power-up and full 75W after configuration as a high power device).

However if that's how it is implemented on that specific board (max 50W) and if that's the maximum that slot can deliver unfortunately the card won't run.

I think you can ash HP support to make absolutely sure.

Because that board's electronics are designed to limit at 50W.

Maxwell (last generation nvidia architecture) cards can be configured to draw a specific maximum wattage from the PCIE slot as long as it has a separate 6-pin or 8-pin connector from the PSU by using a Maxwell Bios Editor. I think the wattage limit can be configured for each of the rails independently.

This generation Pascal cards nvidia encrypted the BIOS data and as far as I know there's no tool/utility to do similar tweaks on GeForce GTX 10 Series which include GTX 1050 Ti.

Bottom line: Ask Dell before buying. Although they would probably say the same. It might work.
